WHY HAPPY THURSDAY?
Happy Thursdays are an opportunity to meet at the end of the month, chat, and get to know your colleagues better—those you share a building with, those you pass in the hallway, in the cafeteria, in the bistro queue, and maybe even those you haven’t met yet. The Biology Centre and the University of South Bohemia form one organism composed of scientists, teachers, students, technicians, and administrative staff—let’s meet regularly and inspire each other!
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Just come and enjoy a pleasant late afternoon. There’s always a keg of beer and other refreshments prepared for you each month in collaboration with the BC bistro. A play area full of toys awaits the kids! Each meeting has its own theme, serving as a light complement to the main goal—connecting people and institutes. Still unsure? Who organizes
• Each event is hosted by a different institute team.
• Every institute (including THS) organizes one event per year.
• The schedule for the first round was set at BC Board of directors.
• The very first event will be hosted by the Institute of Parasitology on October 30th, 2025.
How to organize
• The hosting team receives a budget of 5,000 CZK from their institute.
• The budget can be used for: beverages, decorations, invitations, etc.
• Practical steps:
1. Contact Barbora Helclová (barbora.helclova@bc.cas.cz) for guidance through the process.
2. To announce the event on happythursday.bc.cas.cz, reach out to Matěj Pecha (matej.pecha@bc.cas.cz).
3. Matěj can also take photos of your event for nice memories.
Where
• The BC entrance hall has already been successfully tested.
• Other options: the fireplace next to LEM, or any suitable place at your institute where you can invite colleagues.
WHY COME?
Do you know that feeling when you walk down a long corridor between departments, repeatedly seeing the same faces, but don’t actually know who they are? Where are they from? What do they do? Should you say hello? Join us at Happy Thursdays and get to know your colleagues from the Biology Centre and the University of South Bohemia in a relaxed setting. Each event has a central yet non-binding theme to help spark conversation or simply provide food for thought. Whether you come for the program or just for a chat, there’s always something for you. Meanwhile, kids can have fun in the biology-themed play area, and you can enjoy the company of your colleagues in peace.
